Barons Nov 22nd Update

November 22, 2022 //  by Rebecca Baron//  2 Comments

Ruby’s 5th-grade teacher lives by the person in charge of Hope of America so the person in charge knew her teacher taught 5th grade so she asked her to choose some people from her class last year that were good at doing the Hope of America actions. Her teacher recommended Ruby and two other children from her class.

So Ruby got to go to a recording studio at UVU and be filmed to be in one video. The last video was filmed like 20 years ago with UVU students wearing weird clothes on so it needed to be redone. All they did is actions to one song without even singing. It’s one where they have girls and boys stand up and sit down at different times and do actions.

So some of her cousins may get to see her while they are rehearsing for Hope of America. Here’s a quick photo I grabbed –

As part of my program to heal my digestion she says I really need to do something like yoga every day. So I’ve been doing about 10 minutes every morning for the last few weeks. I’m really enjoying it but I’m so stiff and sore all the time that I can’t do it for longer and I get pretty sore.

It really helps me wake up and feel better though and my back is slowly feeling better and better. It’s helping me sleep a little better too. I’m hoping to eventually be able to do it for longer. I’m just watching YouTube videos for now.

It’s an interesting year with both Megan and Tyler being seniors and trying to figure out what to do after graduation. With Tyler, since he has an IEP he was able to qualify for a special program where we visit with a lady and she is going to try to help him try to figure out what career he wants, get internships, help him know how to prepare and help him get jobs that will help him prepare, and work with his employer when he does get a job to help them understand any accommodations he may need.

If it all works out, it will be really nice because right now he’s thinking he wants to be a police officer and that’s something I don’t know very much about but this lady has a lot of connections and ideas to help him be successful. He can’t be in the police academy at Salt Lake Community College until he is 21 so she’s going to help him figure out how to best prepare.

She also told us things that are good to know, such as they pay you while are you going to the police academy and they help you find a job after. Even if you aren’t good enough at the police academy they will help you find a job that’s a good fit for you in a related field.

Megan and I have been talking to her high school counselor and doing a lot of research online to help her figure out what she wants to study in school and what school she wants to go to next. We’ve looked at marine biology, zoology, cosmetology, and several related programs at different schools.

For now, she’s leaning toward something in art at UVU. UVU is a good fit for her since she will have most of her GEs done there through concurrent enrollment and she is automatically accepted since she is doing concurrent enrollment there.

She is leaning toward the Animation and Game Development program at UVU but from what we’re reading it’s very competitive and you take classes for a year while you develop an online portfolio and then there is a whole acceptance process you have to pass before you can continue in the program.

BYU also has an amazing animation program that we haven’t even looked into yet but that’s also a possibility. U of U and Utah State also have good programs.

Is Tyler too nice to be a police officer?

I don’t think that will be a problem. He knows how to be nice but also knows how to be mean.
