Barons August 18th

August 19, 2024 //  by Rebecca Baron//  2 Comments

And just like that, we’re back to school! But before we talk about that, here are some things we did before school started.

Kayla got a job for a few weeks this summer babysitting a three-year-old girl in our neighborhood. She went for about six hours a day, about four days a week and entertained her at her house, the park, and our house. It was good for her to get some experience, have something to do, and earn some money.

We crammed as many doctor’s appointments into the summer as we could and so we don’t have to do them during the school year. Probably the most exciting thing was that Ruby was able to get her custom ankle and knee braces.

The ankle braces are especially cool because they were made at a place that also makes artificial limbs for people so they were custom-made for her out of hard plastic and make it so her ankle cannot move any way it isn’t supposed to but can move in all the ways it is supposed to. They are also supposed to last a lifetime, especially if you are good about going in for an annual tune-up to get the velcro and things replaced.

Norm and Ruby also started doing allergy shots and go in to do those up to three times a week. You have to go at least once a week for the first six months to a year or so and then you start going in less and less often for about five years total, but you can go in as often as every other day at first so they have been trying to get them over with so they can start feeling better sooner.

Tyler did a sleep test and found out he has sleep apnea and recently started on a C-PAP machine to see if that can help him sleep better.

We went to a Lindsey Stirling concert at the Maverik Center in West Valley with my sister and niece and that was actually really fun and we had awesome tickets. She did lots of cool aerial stunts, like hang upside down while doing the splits and playing her violin.

Ruby went swimming a lot with her cousins. Kayla had a birthday party with her friends. Kayla loves rollerblading and went a lot to Classic Skating with her friends.

This Thursday Kayla and Ruby started school. Ruby is in 8th grade and Kayla is in 11th grade. Ruby is in the highest orchestra at the Jr. High and she also enjoys art. Kayla is in the highest choir at the high school and also got into Critical Mass, which is a small pop singing group (kind of like a male/female Vocal Point) so she’s excited about that.

Ruby doesn’t seem too concerned about her classes but Kayla has a lot of hard classes this year.

Two weeks ago Norm went to Ashton, Idaho for over a week to help his brother build his house and he enjoyed that and worked hard and learned a lot.

I think that’s all for today. We’re doing our best to keep up with everything and have some fun experiences in the middle of all that. We would love to hear what you have been up to!

She’s doing well. She’s back in the same apartment she started with but seems very happy. She just passed her halfway mark. It’s crazy how fast time goes. I’ll have to give a more of an update on her next time since she hasn’t been sending emails much.
